The Spanish Dental Association held last June the 11th the X Conference of Dental Information entitled Professional intrusion. Consequences in Dentistry with the participation of Mr. Ricardo de Lorenzo y Montero, President of the Spanish Association of Health Law; Mr. Enrique Peñaranda Ramos, Professor of Criminal Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid; Mr. Ángel Rodríguez Brioso, President of the Commission of Professional Intrusion at the Spanish Dental Association, and Mr. José Antonio Zafra Anta, Vice President of the Spanish Dental Association.
During this Conference -moderated by Mr. Honorio Bando Casado, emeritus professor of the Faculty of Medicine at the Autonomous University of Madrid- it was revealed the serious consequences of the professional intrusion into the practice of dentistry since both, the oral and general health of the population were putting at risk.
All speakers agreed that the last reform of the Penal Code, which will come into force next July the 1st, introduces only minor changes in the health sector and these are still not enough to reduce the high number of infringements that occur in the field of Dentistry in Spain. Despite the changes introduced, the penalties remain very mild and even "ridiculous", therefore they still do not get the deterrent purpose they should have.
